David is demonstrating a glute stretch. The gluteus muscles are considered one of the strongest muscles in the human body. The glutes consist of three muscles (Gluteus maximus; Gluteus medius and the Gluteus minimus). These muscles are responsible for a wide array of movement such as rotation and extension of the thigh; as well as abduction and rotation of the hip.
Remember again to hold each stretch for 15 seconds, and do at least 3 sets to ensure maximal flexibility.
Some benefits you may not be aware of with stretching the glutes:
- Beneficial effects on posture and alignment
- It can delay symptoms of immobility due to the ageing process
- It speeds up recovery after an intensive work-out by increasing blood flow
- It delays the fatigue on your gluteal muscles.
Give it a try and again please feel free to contact us if any of this is too overwhelming or confusing, we are more than happy to assist.
